# How often does EICR testing need to be done? Building a maintenance calendar
By Test Master UK6 November 20262 min read

Service illustration: eicr testingA useful EICR calendar starts with the installation's own report and responsibilities, not a generic table assigning every building five years. This guide explains how to turn inspection recommendations into manageable reminders across homes and workplaces. Our existing landlord frequency guide covers England's rental rules, while the report-validity guide explains how to use an existing document.

## Give each installation its own entry
Record the premises, installation covered, inspection date and recommended next inspection. Separate a commercial unit from shared areas and other occupiers' installations. Attach the complete report so the reason for a shorter interval and any limitations remain visible.

For rented homes covered by England's regulations, the interval must not exceed five years, or the shorter interval required by the report. That maximum is not a universal statutory timetable for businesses, owner-occupied homes or every UK jurisdiction.

## Distinguish three types of deadline
Keep the periodic inspection date separate from observation deadlines and your internal booking reminder. A reminder several weeks before attendance can help arrange access, but must not postpone urgent work. C1 danger needs immediate action and C2 requires urgent remedial action.

For a covered English rental, required remedial work or investigation follows the statutory and report timetable. Do not move an outstanding action to the next five-year inspection simply because the scheduling software has only one date field.

## Review the schedule when circumstances change
Changes in demand, occupancy, environmental conditions or the installation itself can require competent review before a planned date. Record recurring faults and significant alterations. An age-based assumption is less useful than information about the actual condition and use.

Ask the competent inspector how the recommendation relates to your installation. Do not copy industrial, pool or construction-site intervals from an unsourced table into an ordinary business plan. Those environments have their own risks and requirements.

## Make booking and follow-up someone's responsibility
Name who monitors dates, arranges access, receives the report and follows up findings. Keep suitable completion documents and required delivery evidence with the property record. A completed visit is not the same as a closed safety action.

Arrange commercial EICR testing or residential EICR testing with the previous report and due date. For local sites, EICR testing in Greenford provides a service-specific enquiry route.

- One entry per inspected installation.
- Report-led periodic date.
- Separate urgent-action and booking reminders.
- Named owner and documented completion.
