It is not simply a charge for a document. A useful comparison starts with what will be inspected, how testing can be carried out safely and what evidence you will receive. This guide explains quote factors without presenting unverified national averages or invented Test Master prices. ## Circuits and installation scope Bedroom count can help describe a home, but it does not show its circuit count or complexity. Extensions, additional boards, outbuildings and specialist equipment can change the work. Commercial premises may have several distribution boards and supplies serving different occupiers. Send the previous report and available circuit information. Ask whether the price includes every relevant board and area, or whether exclusions apply. A cheaper quote covering less of the installation is not a like-for-like saving. ## Access and interruption arrangements Restricted access, occupied rooms, locked plant areas and shutdown coordination can affect the inspection time. Identify IT equipment, refrigeration and other loads requiring planned interruptions. Explain who can authorise access and shutdowns before agreeing an attendance window. Out-of-hours work, travel or additional visits may have separate charges. Ask about them explicitly. An older installation may take more investigation, but age alone does not justify assuming a fixed extra price or automatic remedial work. ## Separate inspection from repairs An EICR records condition and observations. Repairing defects is not automatically included in the inspection fee. Clarify how urgent safety findings will be communicated and how further investigation, remedial work and any necessary verification will be priced. Ask which technical documents will accompany completed work. A payment receipt is not evidence that the relevant observation was resolved. Nor should a quotation promise a satisfactory result before the installation has been inspected. ## Make the total price clear Confirm whether VAT, reporting, agreed boards, access costs and any follow-up attendance are included. If a provider quotes per circuit, ask how circuits are counted and how changes to the scope will be agreed. An online calculator is only an estimate until its assumptions match the installation. Request a property-specific quote for residential EICR testing or commercial EICR testing. For EICR testing in Ealing, include your address, property use and previous report.
